Avengers Assemble- Group shot
|
For this group costume I worked on 4 out of 5 of these (excluding Captain America), but only really worked on two of them (Black Widow and Thor). I started on Ironman, but ran out of time (my friend asked me 6 hours before the party...yikes). I helped with the design of the costume for Hawkeye, but my friend made it. I have separate pages for the Black Widow and Thor costumes, but I have list of suggestions underneath for the other four. Surprisingly in an all female group, no one wanted to be the Hulk..... (but I included costume ideas anyway). Enjoy!
Note: I created these costumes in 2012, before I created the website so there are no step-by-step images, but step by step instructions. |
Captain America
For Captain America, we bought a cheap Captain America t-shirt from Walmart and tied the sides so it fit (it was a mens shirt). She then bought blue shiny leggings, the mask, gloves, and the shield. Alternatives to buying would be wearing skinny jeans, making the mask out of cardboard (see Thor's headdress instructions), using red dish gloves, and making your own shield using either a trashcan lid or a Frisbee (paint then hot glue something on the back to hold onto).

Ironman
Ironman is without a doubt, the hardest Avenger to make. I would definitely not recommend attempting this unless you have a lot of time. I attempted to make one the day of the party, with not a lot of success. I am a details person, trying to make it look as authentic as possible. The problem I ran into with this costume is that it is a suit of armor, so in order to make it look authentic, you have to make a suit of armor. While that does sound a dismal complication, don't let that stop you! Here are some ideas to making your own costume: Wear all red (like a dress or long sleeve shirt with colored jeans) with a gold belt and accessories. Make the arc reactor using the image to the right out of blue and grey craft foam. If you do make a costume, I would suggest cardboard and a lot of time. If I had more time to work on it, I probably could have made a really cool version.

Hawkeye (Female)
My friend did this. See image #4. Hawkeye is pretty easy because most people don't really know his costume (the movie changed it from the comic books) so you have pretty much free reign. For this costume she wore all black with a leather jacket and put red electrical tape on the front. She carried bow and arrow set I had, but you can make your own using a twisted hanger and string. For hair and makeup she left her hair down and put on winged eyeliner.

Hulk (Female)
The fun thing about the she-hulk costume is that it can be as simple or as crazy as you want to make it. It also can be a slutty or as modest as you want. If you do hulk, go ahead and commit to the green body paint, or get a full length green leotard. From there, you can go slutty (purple bikini with a ripped button down on top) or more modest (shorts with a purple tank top).
